AUDIENCE FEEDBACK INTERVIEWS
Q3.
Here i have taken what people have said about my trailer and edited it into a short movie to go along side all of the audience feedback i gained from my rough cuts. With all of this feedback i will now take it all into consideration and try to make my final peice the best it can be.
BEECHMOUNT - FINAL ROUGH CUT
Q3. Here is the final rough cut of the trailer. I have interviewed some of my peers and myself giving me pointers about how to improve my final peice and make it the best it can be. This is above this post. Points which wernt mentioned in the interview which i would also like to improve on is the first shot establishing the name of the soap 'Beechmount' - I would like to change this to a still image as it zooms in but it isnt straight. Secondly i would also like to add in a voice over at the end of the trailer telling the audience when the soap starts and what channel and time it will be on. Finally i would like to add the billboard onto the end of the trailer to, this will fade in from the the previous title card containing all of the E4 branding.
BEECHMOUNT 2ND ROUGH CUT
Q3. After changing the editing of the trailer we decided to gain audience feedback again to ensure we had improved from our inital peice. From the feedback we gained the audience knew the direction of the trailer and stated that it made more sense now due to the added title cards. We found this feedback useful because we then knew we only needed a soundtrack and to sharpen the edits so they matched the sound beats of the track we was going to choose.
Whilst gettin audience feedback I asked my peers a few questions in order to see what they felt the mood of the trailer was so this would help me when coming to choose a final soundtrack as nothing that we tried was working well. From this reserch the audience thought that a slow deep song would fit best and this helped us come up with the soundtrack we have decided to use - 'Sweet Disposition' by The Temper Trap.
BEECHMOUNT - 1ST ROUGH CUT
Q3. Here is our first rough cut, from this trailer we gained some audience feedback from our peers in order to improve our soap opera trailer. Firstly many peers stated that the soundtrack didnt fit. We were aware that the sound track was a poor quailty however we were going to buy the track off itunes and then change it over however from our feedback we have decided that we need to get a new soundtrack which has more meaning and gives the audience understanding of the trailer.
Secondly we were given feedback that some of the shots were unneccessary and some in the wrong order making the trailer not make sense. Shots such as the blackberry phone ringing is unclear as the audience do not know who is holding the phone and also character names havnt been established in the trailer. This could be improved by us having a character introduction at the start of every episode so the audience are familiar with the characters from the very first episode. If we was to create this it would contain each character separately with a title card with there name on. The characters would do something which would then represent them throughout the show. For exmaple, Jack (Gary) Could play with his hair to emphasise his character as being homosexual.
Shots that were in the wrong order are the shot of Sophie (Roche) and Jake (Spencer) in the park as it then goes back to them in the house and there first one night stand. This confuses the audience as then it goes back to being in the park so the happening/tense of scenes occuring is unclear. From this feedback we are aware that we need to change this and make the trailer run in chronological order.
Finally another area for improvement is title cards. Many of our peers have mentioned that if we had title cards throughout the trailer as well as at the end the storyline would be clearer. I think this is a very good way to improve our trailer because although it will make sense of the trailer it will also build up suspense.
WRONG ANGLE SHOTS
Q3. Here you can see that we shot two scenes the wrong way round. In order to gain all of Jakes body we decided to use the camera the portrait, at the time we thought we did well and got the shots in, however now we realise that we can not use different angled shots as they do not sync with the rest of the trailer. From gaining feedback we understood we could not use these shots therefore on our second shooting day we had learnt from our mistake and could then on our re-shoot gain shots we could include in our trailer.

QUESTION 4 - Technologies
This is a video showing you all of the technologies i have used for creating my soap opera trailer.

DECONSTRUCTION OF A PRE-EXISTING BILLBOARD
Again here is another billboard from the programme 'The Inbetweeners'. I found that this billboard used a very clever technique and that the billboard had been well planned before hand. It had various meanings shown through having the four main characters down the centre. I think this billboard is very effective.
DECONSTRUCTION OF A PRE-EXISTING BILLBOARD
Here as you can see i have taken an existing billboard from the programme 'Made in Chealsea' and looked at the different elements. This will help me when it comes to create a billboard for the soap trailer i have created.
Planning - TV Magazine
Before creating the TV Magazine, i decided to do a quick sketch and decide upon my basic layout. Here is what i come up with.
DE-CONSTRUCTION OF A PRE-EXISTING MAGAZINE
AGAIN I LOOKED AT A DIFFERENT TV MAGAZINE, THIS ONE CALLED "TV CHOICE" THIS WAS AGAIN THIS WAS PRE-PLANNING BEFORE I CAME TO CREATE MY OWN TV GUIDE ANCILLARY TO GO WITH MY SOAP TRAILER.
DECONSTRUCTION OF A PRE-EXISTING MAGAZINE
HERE I HAVE DE-CONSTRUCTED THIS TV MAGAZINE - "TV EASY" THIS IS TO HELP ME GAIN MORE KNOWLEDGE SO THAT WHEN IT COMES TO CREATE MY ANCILLARY I WILL MEET ALL OF THE CORRECT CODES AND CONVENTIONS.

Planning
THIS IS MY PLANNING PRESENTATION I HAVE PUT TOGETHER. IT CONTAINS INITAL PLANNING, SHORT STORYBOARDS, SHOOTING SCHEDUAL AND ALSO THE MAIN DETAILED STORYBOARDS. THIS IS WHAT WE FOLLOWED WHEN CREATING OUR SOAP OPERA TRAILER

EVALUATION OF EXISTING TRAILER
- The clip starts with a white transition which then fades into a blue and white title card stating "TUESDAY" the background voice over runs along side the title card stating "this tuesday" this then cuts to a Mid Shot of two characters, dressed smartly stood side by side. Another title card apears stating "FINALLY" then again cutting to the same female character hugging a differnt male character with the title card "FINALE" - all along side the background voice over, reiterating what the title cards are saying.
- It then cuts to a CU shot of a male character then quickly onto a OSS of a female character establishing who the conversation is between.
- A series of differnet shots such as CU and OSS take place throughout the trailer with fast edits to show differnet character relationships and, along side the voice over and "Explosive" title card dialogue from the trailer is also edited in showing the direction and narrative behind the programme.
- The different storylines are all run along one another showing how things came to happen and how multiple storylines are used allowing certain characters and the audience to know more than other characters.
- The clip ends with a shot of the main cast with the title of the programme behind, reinforcing the programme. A banner then appears on the bottom stating "season finale" in another colour to the time and channel. This works well as it gets accross clearly to the audience when the finale is.
EVALUATION OF EXISTING TRAILER
- This trailer is a very short but precise trailer. The trailer starts with a MCU of three characters. It pans to the left slightly focusing mainly on the end character who is waving, this indicates that he is a symbolic part in the storyline.
- It then cuts to a close up of this character, again still waving.
- After this shot it cuts across to the other side of the alter with again a MCU of four more characters. One of the characters drop a baby doll and the camera cuts to the floor showing the baby smash into peices. This is ironic as the bride is pregnant although not shown in this trailer but in the longer version of it, this indicates that something could be wrong with the baby.
- As all the characters are dressed in black the trailer is very dark, this contrasts with the sound track "white wedding" as nothing in the trailer shows a happy tradditional white wedding. This implys to the audience that the wedding is doomed to fail.
- The camera then cuts to a CU of the main character who is getting married. It is evident she is the bride as she is wereing a veil. The black tear down her face again re-implys that the wedding is not a happy one, or will not end happily.
- As the bride is on screen the dialogue of "To Love, Honour and Betray" imply that there is more behind the story that all characters know indicating that multiple narratives have taken place before this trailer.
- The channel 4 logo then appears along with who the programme is sponsored by. The words 'coming soon' appear in another colour making this clear to see to pursuade viewers to watch the run up to the wedding.
EVALUATION OF EXISTING TRAILERS
- The trailer starts with a title card stating "romance" - this directly tells the audience what the trailer is about. The sponsor is in the corner, advertising its brand - Rimmel makeup.
- When the dialogue starts we fade into a close up of a character with blonde hair then cut to an over the shoulder shot of another character. This establishes to the audience who the conversation is with and we also understand more about the character she is talking about through the dialouge.
- From this shot we have a shot reverse shot, cuting back to the character talking then back onto the over the shoulder shot. This is a realistic technique to show characters points of view and show meaning through the conversation
- The next shots are all edited quickly, giving the audience snippets of information about all the different characters. The upbeat sound track also kicks in at this stage and an atmosphere is created to the audience. Shots such as CU, MS and OSS are all used to give the audience meaning and understand relationships which are set in stone for the series.
- 25 seconds in the music changes direction, the upbeat fast pace soundtrack changes to a more deep minor key soundtrack (adele rolling in the deep.)
- From this moment the trailer changes direction and cuts between two characters in particular indictating to the audience a main story line will be focuses around them.
- The title cards at the end i think are a really good technique. The fast edits leave the audience wanting more and the title card words establish to the audience what the whole show will be about.
- Finally as the title of the show appears it then fades into a picture of all the cast i think this works well as it represents the show, the characters are all dressed appropreatly and again it reinforces character relationships.

E4 - STYLE GUIDE
Now i have decided that i want my soap to be on E4 I have looked up the E4 style guide so that I can make my ancillary products look as professional as possible. The website i have used is: http://www.channel4.com/about_c4/styleguide/e4styleguide/e4-brand-guidelines.pdf From looking through this I am not aware of where to position the logo, how to create the logo to the correct size and what fonts to use etc. Now when creating my ancillary billboard the E4 logo can be positioned correctly.
Channel Reaserch
From doing channel reaserch it has now made it evident that i would broadcast my soap trailer on E4. E4 has other programmes on which target the same audience that my soap opera targets therefore i think that this channel is suited best.
